I had admired the simple design with the hotels owner who told me that it was inspired from one he had seen at a Banyan Tree hotel and then he made changes to the design to suit his location and use. Currently the alpendre is used as a riverside outside dinning room which it suites perfectly.
When you are trying to gauge the size that you need for dining its important to understand that apart from the size of the table you then need the size of the chair with someone sitting at it and space to walk behind when someone is seated. Then you need to add extra so that the dinner is shaded from the sun and sheltered from the rain.
Back to the pergola. The pillars are in concrete block which has been cement rendered, The roof is in local wood in this case being Brazil they have used mahogany. The tiles are rustic style modern interlocking clay tiles and slung underneath the tiles is white muslin to give a very attractive finish as they move in the breeze.
