Corrnice or decorative plaster ceiling molding
The cornice or decorative plaster moulding which runs around the top of your walls where they join the ceiling can be very ornate indeed or as simple as you like. Plaster cornice ceiling decorations sometimes called decorative plaster or fibrous plaster you often see some of the heaviest most ornate examples in grand houses of a hundred years ago. We have seen many fine examples in Figuiera da Foz, Portugal. The modern trend is to have cornices which are more discreet and streamlined You can have them handmade and formed in place by craftsmen or you can buy cornice or decorative plaster ceiling moulding pre formed and off the shelf. They require a little DIY skill to fit them properly and can look a real mess if you get the installation wrong. Our preference is to have our highly skilled plasterers make them by hand when the plaster a house. Here’s how they do it. The cornice is finished off to the desired profile with porcelain plaster that gives a very smooth hard finish which will show off the profiles in the cornice. Polystyrene cornice There are even polystyrene cornices. These are very light and meant for the DIY market they don’t look as attractive and are hard to fit well.
